Care Tips for your Carpet and Upholstery

Precautions for freshly cleaned carpets

  • Walking from a wet carpet onto hard surfaces can be very slippery. For safety, we recommend you keep children and pets off freshly cleaned carpeting until it is completely dry.

  • Until carpeting is dry, minimizing traffic on it helps to prevent resoiling. Even slight amounts of moisture can easily dislodge dirt from the bottom and feet and paws.

  • Do not replace furniture until the carpet is completely dry. This will prevent rust spots or stains caused by furniture legs to form on your carpet.

  • Drying times can vary due to a number of factors, like humidity, the density of your carpet, etc. Ventilation and air circulation helps to reduce drying time. Some carpets can take up to 8 hrs to completely dry.

  • After cleaning and drying, some stains or warn areas of carpeting can become more apparent. Other problems can sometimes arise. As your carpet care professional, we try to identify potential problems before we start. Always feel free to call us to discuss any questions or concerns about our service.

Spot and Stain Care Guide

General Cleaning Rules

Always read and follow the care instructions and any warnings provided by the carpet manufacturer. Rugs and carpets with natural fibers and/or certain dyes may require special treatment. If in doubt, call GREEN & CLEAN for advice/service. The key to keeping your carpet looking great depends on the care you give it.

That care centers around three basic steps:
  • Removal of soil by frequent vacuuming.
  • Periodic cleaning by a professional.
  • Prompt, correct removal of spots and spills
Some items to have available to remove spots or stains:
  • White paper towels or white terry towels.
  • Household ammonia solution, which is one tablespoon of clear household ammonia to 1/2 cup of water.
  • WHITE vinegar solution made of 1/3 cup of WHITE vinegar and 2/3 cup of water.
  • In lieu of the above solutions, you may use the complementary stain removal product given to you by GREEN & CLEAN.
  • Spray bottle for applying detergents and special solutions.
  • Spoon or dull knife.
  • Brick or other heavy object

Basic stain/spot removal procedures
Blot liquids, don't rub them in! Use a clean white cotton cloth or plain white paper towels. Once you have removed the liquid, rinse the spot with water and blot again until dry. Repeat if necessary to remove more of the stain, but don't scrub the area, or you may damage the carpet and set the stain in more permanently. If you have a spotter you may use this in place of water and simply follow the directions on the bottle. Remember always test for colorfastness in a inconspicuous area before you start to clean.

For semi-solids, such as peanut butter, pudding and such, scrape and lift gently with a spoon or dull knife. Rinse the remaining spill out and blot dry.

Each and every stain is unique. Depending on what caused the stain determines what is used to remove it. We have provided this basic procedure to assist you with basic stain/spot removal. More advanced procedures may be required to actually remove the stain/spot, if possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us so we may assist you.
